Description
Very special and exceptionally beautiful sculpture for candles, about 40 cm. high made by the famous Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad is now for sale for collectors! Purchased by present owner in Frankfurt /Main in 2015 for 5970 Euro (receipt is available). Petra Werner, Director of Staatliches Museum für Porzellan in Selb, has testified that the figure was produced by Rosenthal in 1985 and that the sales price in February 1986 was DM 7.900 (= 4.310 USD). The sculpture with wonderful hand-painted golden ornamentations was produced in a very limited number. Bears the signature of Bjørn Wiinblad and ML. under the bottom. The material is dull-white biscuit and the motive a group of fantasy figures resting under a tree. The motive is inspired by Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and reflects Bjørn Wiinblad’s erotic attitude to life, the tree trunk signifying a phallic symbol. Six candlesticks for wax candles are integrated in the sculpture but have never been used. The sculpture is in mint condition without any scratches or trace of use. Bjorn Wiinblad (1918-2006) was a Danish designer and artist in ceramics, silver and other materials. In Heidi Laura's book "A Piece of Paradise" (2018) you can read about Bjørn Wiinblad and his time.
