Large Vintage Rosenthal Double Seagull Diving Into Waves Porcelain Sculpture This is a Rosenthal porcelain sculpture depicting two seagulls in flight with their wings spread diving into waves. This Mid Century porcelain sculpture was designed by renouned artist, ceramist and sculptor Fritz Heidenreich (1855-1966), which his impressed name is on the back side of the base. He was a Rosenthal employee from 1919 - 1960 and from 1946 onwards he was head of the art department in Selb. He tried to find contemporary ways of expressing his forms as seen in this sculpture. The details, workmanship, style and design are superb. Measuring 25" wide x 16" high x 4 3/4" in depth. Marked on the underside with the Rosenthal, Germany mark in green identifying production of late 1950's. Condition ~ The bird on the right side has a 5" long section of it's right wing that has been broken and repaired, please see photo #'s 7 through 10. When sitting on a table it is hard to notice until you look closely. No other chips, cracks, or repairs. Enlarge photos to see details.
