Description

Large bisque porcelain Rosenthal figure of a standing nude by Rudolf Kaesbach. Made in 1937. The back is inscribed with: R. KAESBACH and on the bottom of the base is a green Rosenthal manufactory stamp. The model’s number is 1655 and 19 (impressed). Height: 15 ¼’’ inches (38.5 cm). Literature: E. Niecol, Rosenthal, 3.0570. Condition: The figure is in excellent original condition without any flaws Rudolf Kaesbach was a German sculptor. B orn in 1873 in Mönchengladbach, Germany, he studied in Hanau, Paris, and Brussels and worked as a sculptor in Berlin after 1904. Between 1936–39, he produced porcelain figurines for Rosenthal. Kaesbach had exhibitions in Berlin, Düsseldorf, and Malmö. Later his sculptures were shown in the Nazi propaganda exhibition “Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung” at the Haus der Deutschen Kunst, Munich. In his later years he devoted himself increasingly to the representation of female nudes. Kaesbach's sculptures were shown at the Great German Art Exhibitions of 1939, 1940, 1941, and 1943 at the House of German Art in Munich. He died on 4 December 1955 in Berlin, aged 82.
