Norman Rockwell's THE TOY MAKER Rosenthal – Selb – Bavaria Fritz von Graevenitz Young Deer Figurine Being offered on this auction is Young Deer figurine made by Rosenthal China , Selb , Bavaria , Germany . This is Rosenthal model number 806. Famous German sculptor Fritz von Graevenitz (1892 – 1959) designed this figurine in 1925. He was a freelance sculptor. He was director of the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart from 1938 to 1944. Graevenitz worked for Rosenthal from 1924 to 1934 and designed about seventeen animal sculptures for art department in Selb. Figurine on this auction features adorable white deer standing on pedestal. Genuine texture of porcelain gently resembles animal’s body. Figurine is marked on the backside with standard ‘Rosenthale Germany’ mark in green identifying production of 1950s. Other marking is model number 806 and number 19 incised on the backside as well as artist’s initials ‘F. G’ on the top of pedestal. Figurine measures about 2 ¼” x 1” and stands 3 ¾” (9.5 cm) tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or chips found. There is something making noise inside this piece when you shake it as it is often happening with old porcelain figures.
