Norman Rockwell's THE TOY MAKER Rosenthal – Selb – Bavaria Berthold Boeß Miniatures - Masculine Gentleman With Flowers Figurine Being offered on this auction is figurine of a gentleman made by Rosenthal China , Selb , Bavaria , Germany . This is Rosenthal model number 452. Very respected German sculptor Berthold Boeß (1877 – 1957) designed this figurine in 1917. He is known for his monuments and wells. He worked for Rosenthal from 1913 to 1934 and designed several figurines and sculptures in the early years of the art department in Selb. Most known of them is ‘Frederick the Great’. Figurine on this auction is a part of his miniatures series. This is Miniatures – Masculine, male figurine. It features gentleman in smoking holding his cylinder hat in one hand and bouquet of flowers in another. Sculpture stands on small pedestal decorated with engraved arabesques. This is all-white version of this famous figure. Genuine texture of porcelain gently resembles details of man’s body and dress. Looks splendid. It is marked on the backside with standard ‘Rosenthale Selb Bavaria’ mark in green identifying original production of 1920 . Other marking is Rosenthal form number K. 452 and 29 incised on the backside as well as artist's signature incised on pedestal from his left back side . Figurine measures about 1 ¼” x 1” and stands 2 3/8” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or chips found. Mark is slightly faded. Figurine displays very well.
