Description

A little history lesson first, courtesy of CollectorsWeekly.com, H orsyme.com, and AudreyFalconer.com ... Like a lot of potteries, the Rosenthal Porcelain Factory grew from decorating roots. Founded in 1879 by Philipp Rosenthal, the company did not produce its own forms until 1889, when Rosenthal set up his own ceramics factory in Selb, Bavaria. He quickly hired the best designers and clay modelers he could find. Professor Theodor Karner was born in 1884 and died in 1966 in Munich. During his lifetime he sculpted for several prominent porcelain factories, producing beautiful and memorable animal figurines. He worked for Rosenthal between 1919 and 1934. And now on to this listing ... This listing is for a small s itting terrier porcelain figurine, Model number 1121, designed by Theodore Kärner in 1930. Rosenthal logo printed in green on the bottom, and Th. Karner impressed into the clay. Stands about 3 1/2" tall and measures about 5 1/8" long from the tip of the front paw to the tip of the tail. No chips, cracks, or unusual wear. Absolutely lovely . If you are a collector of Rosenthal dog sculptures, you've just found the next piece to add to your collection.
