Description

Queen of Egypt & wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten - Vintage mid- century Rosenthal porcelain figurine. Bust by Rosenthal inspired by The original bust of the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti at the Neues Museum in Berlin. Headdress is a glazed porcelain, lower portion is unglazed, matte Bisque. Very good vintage condition. Please closely review pictures for actual condition. I saw no cracks. I did note minor light marks on lower matte base and signs that the item was displayed. I made no attempt to clean this beautiful piece. Previous owner placed felt on bottom of figurine for protection. This is an amazing vintage mid-century Rosenthal piece. History of this iconic Egyptian Queen Nefertiti Bust: The Bust of Nefertiti is a polychrome sculpture, considered one of the masterpieces of Egyptian art, made by the Royal Sculptor Tutmose or Dyehutymose (generated by Dyehuty) (1330 BC), craftsman and master sculptor during the reign of Akhenaten during the 18th Dynasty of Egypt The bust was discovered on December 6, 1912, in excavations carried out by the Orient-Gesellchaft and led by the German Egyptologist, Ludwig Borchardt, in the studio of the royal sculptor Tutmose in Amarna, the Arabic name of a region located on the eastern bank of the Nile River, famous for being the enclave where the city of Aketatón was built in the mid-fourteenth century BC. The sculpture represents Nefertiti (c. 1370 BC - c. 1330 BC), the great queen of the 18th dynasty of Egypt, and Royal Wife of Akhenaten. Her Egyptian name hers, nfr.u itn, nfrt.y.ty, translates to "Goodness of Aten, the beautiful has come." Her beauty was legendary, but despite incredible beauty, it seems that her political and religious role in the development of the Amarnian experience was equally recognized. Immediately after listing, this prized bust will be carefully packaged for safe shipping.
