Original signed Shirley Rosenthal (1924-2015) enamel on copper wall hanging titled "Waiting in the Wings - The Opera." The artist lived in Wililamsville, NY. Beige tones, white, and black, created so the beautiful copper color shows through some of the colors, particularly the white areas. The figures of the several people are raised from the surface to add a third dimension (see photos). Originally purchased in 1983. 24/5 x 36.5 inches, frames, in simple brushed silver colored frame. Weighs 20 pounds. The following bio is from Rosenthal's prior web site: Shirley Rosenthal has been exhibiting her enamel wall-panels since 1965. She participated in national juried shows sponsored by American Crafts Council at Rhinebeck, NY and Baltimore for 14 years, working with galleries, private commissions and direct sales to the public.Rosenthal has served on numerous juries, including One Hundred American Craftsmen, Kenan Center, Lockport, NY; East Aurora Art Festival; Allentown Art Festival, Buffalo, NY; and Roycroft Art Festival. Ms. Rosenthal's work is included in many public and commercial buildings, among them Blue Cross/Blue Shield lobby, Buffalo, NY; Moog, Inc., East Aurora, NY; Life Technologies, Grand Island, NY; Brylin Hospital, Buffalo, NY; Sisters Hospital Board Room, Buffalo, NY, as well as many private collections.She has taught enameling at the Jewish Center of Greater Buffalo, at Kenan Center, Lockport, NY; at Elderhostel sessions in Lewiston, NY and has given numerous enameling workshops.Ms. Rosenthal participated in the Kenan Center Craft Festival every year since its inception in l972 and was awarded Master Craftsman status and received Best of Show Award. She is also a member of Buffalo Society of Artists and has exhibited annually in its juried exhibitions and has been awarded numberous honors from that organization. Her work was exhibited in the Craft Art of Western New York at the Burchfield-Penney Gallery in 1990, 1992 and 1994. She is represented in the Charles Rand Penney Collection and the Annette Cravens Collection at the Anderson Gallery.In the past two years Ms. Rosenthal has turned her attention from enamel wall-panels to mixed-metals wall-reliefs, in some cases combining enamels and various other mixed media objects.In 2010 Rosenthal's work was exhibited in Extraordinary Forms II, Kenan Center, Lockport, New York and in the Buffalo Society of Artists Gallery at Artpark in Lewiston, New York for the 2010 season.Currently she works by commission only but in the past has had her work exhibited in many fine galleries throughout the country, primarily the Holsten Galleries in Palm Beach, Florida and Stockbridge, New York.
